Introducing: The Possible Garden!

Updated: Jan 30, 2021

Every year, aspiring gardeners apply for a coveted spot in one of the two amazing community gardens, the Mission Garden, and the Cliff Bungalow Garden. And every year, many people don't get selected in the draw and are left on a wait list and saying, "Maybe next year...".

Well, we thought it would be great if this year everyone who wanted a garden could have one... so we made a new garden! CBMCA member and volunteers, the City of Calgary, and a generous land owner combined forces to create the Possible Garden (Jardin Possible en Français!) to get people out of their homes to play in the dirt and make new friends.

On the Name

We wanted a name that would distinguish this project from the lovely Mission and Cliff Bungalow gardens, honour the past, and inspire for the future.

The land is on a lot on the NE corner of 25th Ave and 1st Street SW, and was vacant due to the house being destroyed by the flood of 2013. That same June, the CBMCA held Mission Possible, a precursor to today's Neighbour Day and a celebration of the community coming together to help neighbours through the flood.

We honour the distant past, too, in choosing a name that reflects the Francophone history of Mission, which was originally Rouleauville before being annexed by the City of Calgary. As English and French have lived and worked together in Mission, so does our name: Possible Garden is also Jardin Possible.

Overall, we wanted a name that reflects that spirit of the people of Cliff Bungalow - Mission. When they work together, they prove that anything is possible!
